Primary Investigator

Dr. Laura Alonso
Laura C. Alonso , MD
  • Chief, Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism Director, Weill Center for Metabolic Health
Research Focus:

The main focus of our lab is to understand which pathways guide beta cell proliferation, to find approaches to make more beta cells, to prevent or treat diabetes

  • M.D., University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine Residency, Internal Medicine, University of Chicago Hospitals Fellowship, Endocrinology, University of Chicago Hospitals Research Fellowship, Stem Cell Biology, Rockefeller University

Andrew
Andrew Rappa
  • Graduate Student
Research Focus:

During my graduate studies, I aim to study the ER stress response in islets to learn more about the changes that beta cells undergo during the pathogenesis of nutrition-related disorders, as metabolic syndrome. I hope my experiments will be useful for discovering potential therapeutic targets to protect beta cell function.
